Preparing for a Festive Memorial Day Weekend

FullSizeR

If you’re like us the clean up for guests is just as important as the clean up for when they leave.  We wanted to offer a few tips to make your Memorial Day Weekend the best, without all of the hassles.

Put away all towels:  To save you from having to keep putting out clean hand towels thru out the house as it is used to clean up messes and dry multiple sets of hands.  Simply stock up on a bulk order of paper towels and leave rolls everywhere convenient.  This way you are not washing every towel and rag in your whole house come Tuesday.  Nothing like getting ready for getting out of the shower to the surprise of no towels clean.

No need to wash dishes: To save you from having to wash mountains of dishes.  Purchase disposable containers and utensils to serve in.

~To take that one step further instead of preparing all the food. Ask friends and family to bring their favorite dish in a disposable container this way you don’t have to prepare it and when the yummy dish is gone you can throw it away instead of having to be the sweet host that cleans everyone’s favorite one of a kind casserole dish.

*TIP from the editor: One of my personal favorite hacks, is instead of having chip bags toppled over everywhere and countless bowls for every flavor sitting out that will then need to be poured back in the bag or thrown out.  I simply fold in the bottom of the chip bag and make a bowl.  See an example from Pinterest here

Trash Gone Wild!: Trash will be everywhere. Unless you plan ahead.  Place a container for trash in every imaginable place possible to encourage party guest to throw away their trash.  By placing the cans around the tables, coolers, and food it will encourage them to throw away as they grab another.

Neglect because we forget..!

Most of us are as busy as all get out, running from one event to the next. Trying to care for every part of our home can be a task. I mean if the trash needs to go out we take it out. Dishes stacking up we wash them. Scrub the toilet and pick up dirty clothes and wash them. Have you thought though about the trash can your trash goes in? The dishwasher storing your clean dishes? Just imagine how easily these things get neglected. So to help we have included a few tips as to why you should clean these and when.

Dishwasher:
Should be cleaned quarterly if not monthly. By doing so you lessen your chances of food poisoning and build up of germs and bacteria. Dirt, food, and grease all build up in dishwasher over time and if water that drips does not drain it sours and spoils your clean dishes and your stomach.

How: Weekly remove the filter, soak, and clean it.  Run a heavy cycle with vinegar in the soap dispenser and baking soda sprinkled inside of the machine. Good as new!

Indoor Trash Can:
Clean every 2 months if not monthly. Trash tends to spill over and leak out causing your trash can to get sticky, smelly, and grow bacteria.

How: Take your trash can to the bath/shower and rinse it with warm soapy water. You can also spray it down well with a good antibacterial cleaner and be sure to wipe the inside, outside, and bottom.

Washing Machine:
This guy does so much for your household so monthly we clean it. Just like parents if we don’t reboot and charge we will burn out so do a courtesy to your faithful friend the washing machine. This inside of the washing machine will start to develop buildup which keeps the water from filtering and draining properly.

How: With the machine running hot water add a quart of bleach to the detergent dispenser. Let this run full cycle. Be sure to clean all compartments seals and hinges by hand these areas must be clean to prevent mold and bacteria growth from the moisture. Doing this monthly will keep you from the laundry mat.

Refrigerator:
Should be cleaned quarterly if not monthly. By doing so you lessen your chances of food poisoning and build up of germs and bacteria. Not to mention from keep dust from building up on the coils and under the fridge causing moisture to damage the floors and the machine.

How: Pull out all drawers and soak them in warm soapy water. Clean the inside of the fridge with a rag or sponge using baking soda and vinegar on hard stains and yucky dried on food. Now, pull out the fridge vacuum and wipe down the wall behind the fridge, the back and side of the fridge, and the floor where it sits. Tada! Fresh and Clean and damage free.

Garbage Disposal:

Pew!! What is that smell..? It is your garbage disposal. The plastic rings and the disposal itself collect old food and bacteria. Using ice knocks off the buildup off the walls and blades of the disposal.

How: Freeze lemon juice and drop a few cubes down the drain weekly and turn her on. You may also like to use frozen vinegar either or.

We hope a few of these tips will help
