With the final school bell rung, end of year class parties over, and summer arrangements final that is right School is Out for Summer. If you are like us the dread and overwhelming anticipation has set in. No worries here are a few tips to kid proof for the summer.
Step ONE
Plan all meals. Create a drawer or shelf in your pantry for snacks only. If children are old enough to make their own meals, brainstorm with them a few meals they can prepare for themselves during the week without burning the house down.
Step TWO
To avoid the dreaded sentence, “I am bored…” sit down with your kids and ask them some things they would like to do this summer. Without dismissing any of their ideas, write them down then brainstorm and sort our your list with your significant other what things you can do for the summer. Another avenue would be to implement activities they can do on their own each day. Our personal favorite would be The Bored Jar. Write down the activities mentioned above that they like to do or would like to do and add a few. Anytime the kids are bored send them to The Bored Jar. The internet offers many options or you can always follow us on Pinterest to see some of our favorites: https://www.pinterest.com/maidsandmoore/maids-and-moore/

Step THREE
Chores. Yes, while controversial with some, chores are a wonderful part of a routine. Like going to school, it keeps the children accountable and on schedule. Chores build character, teaching them to be responsible and certainly rule out boredom. Not to mention it take some of the mommy do list items away. Make a list of chores to do for each child and as incentive offer allowances or getting to do their choice of something fun. If you have multiple children accomplishing chores each week find an activity that will make all of them happy.
