The Difference Between Cleaning, Sanitizing, and Disinfecting

Clean House Tips

During a time, such as this it is important to not only clean our homes which removes visible dirt, dust and debris but also disinfect them.  A misconception is that sanitization is the same as disinfecting. This is not true.  Sanitization is meant to reduce, not kill, the occurrence and growth of bacteria, viruses and fungi. Disinfecting a surface will “kill” the pathogens of viruses and such organisms. Making it more effective to rid the surface of said viruses. All EPA approved disinfectants have specific instructions and dwell times required to effectively kill pathogens. If not done as directed this would not be disinfecting rather sanitizing. Maids and Moore is trained and prepared to clean our customers’ homes and businesses and provide disinfecting services.

With COVID-19 now in our daily life we have all been compelled to take a closer look at our household cleaning. Visibly clean is just not good enough anymore. Now, more than ever before we are seeking a level of clean that compares to that of healthcare facilities.  Hospitals are required by regulation to use EPA approved disinfectants to eliminate 100% of the organisms (virus, bacteria, fungi) present on a cleaned surface. Although not required by regulation, we want our customers to have the same safety and security that comes with this level disinfection. Maids and Moore is always looking for ways to improve our service and by adding EPA approved disinfectant and offering our new Disinfecting Misting Service, we are meeting the level of disinfection our customers need. We should all feel safe in our home environment and Maids and Moore wants to help achieve that.
